Palmyra Temple Watercolor

In 2007, a customer responded to my ad on the internet. She wanted a gift for her sister who was a missionary in New York near Palmyra. I was able to find a few snapshots of the Temple that I really liked, and merged them together for this painting. I had a lot of fun meeting the challenges of this piece, and creating something beautiful for some missionaries.

I have only done one more piece after this one, which I hate, so I don't publish it (Monticello Temple). I started working on other projects and found them to be more rewarding (financially and emotionally) so the artwork is on hold for now.

Las Vegas Temple Drawing

In 2006, I helped out an auction to benefit families with fathers struggling with cancer. I offered one custom piece of artwork, and the couple that won the auction wanted the Las Vegas Temple. I struggled for a while about what to do with the boring blue sky with this picture. I finally settled on cross-hatching and I enjoyed the work and the finished product. However, my favorite part of this piece is the palm tree leaves framing the side.

Lighthouse Watercolor

This watercolor was also done in the class I took with my sister. There were some moments when I absolutely hated this piece, and for a long time, I just put it away and didn't like it. However, now I love it. I have a copy hanging on my wall. It is beautiful.

Mesa Watercolor 2

In early Spring of 2006, another sister in my ward (congregation) asked if we could paint together. We tried a number of times to schedule it, and it did not work out. At last we made the effort. Her children played with my children as we sat outside on the back patio and painted together. I began almost half-heartedly. But, I really enjoyed myself because I was not taking this piece seriously. I was just enjoying the freedom to do whatever I wanted. I did not finish this painting in one day, but I enjoyed the result so much I kept working on it. It took some encouragement and feedback from my family members, but I mustered the discipline to finish it and this is now one of my favorite pieces.

Mesa Watercolor 1

For My Birthday in January 2005, my husband gave me a special treat. He signed me up for watercolor classes once a week. He arranged for my sister (a spectacular watercolor artist) to take the classes with me, and he scheduled a babysitter for our children every week. It was the best birthday present ever. I had a great time taking a break from being "Mommy" to be an artist and a sister. One of the pieces I worked on was this watercolor of the Mesa Temple between two palm trees. I was really stretched and educated by the help of my sister as well as the teacher. I gave the original to a sister in my ward (congregation) for a service exchange.
